He was a genius, a revolutionary, an artist. We worked with him for nearly nine years, until his passing in early 2025. Together we created two series of illustrated books featuring his photographs and images selected by him, right up to his final days. The first, Lezioni di fotografia (Lessons in Photography), launched in 2018, presents his vision of photography as a form of communication. It brings together leading authors, his own photographs, works by renowned photographers he interviewed, materials from the history of photography, and contributions from the Bauer School. The result was an extraordinary project of iconographic research and a cutting-edge design, worthy of a true master of contemporary culture. The second series, La nuova fotografia (The New Photography), was developed hand in hand with him and stands as his final statement and his vision of the future. It explores how social media has become the new photography, drawing on an immense visual research effort across social platforms and examining how we all face the challenge of looking at reality, ourselves, and the world around us. Word by word, it captures Oliviero Toscani’s thoughts, transcribed and carefully revised, together with his distinctive vision of graphic design and communication, embodied in a layout conceived alongside him. It is a project we were deeply honored to be part of.
